Yes. We are fully approved with NBHWC and meet all the educational requirements.
All of our instructors are certified with NBHWC and are Certified Pain Management Coaches, or are medical providers. Most of our instructors have coached chronic pain clients for many years and bring an unparalleled depth of experience.

You will receive the certification of Certified Health and Wellness Coach (CHWC), with an emphasis on chronic pain coaching and Motivational Interviewing.
Yes, most classes have time built in to provide practice coaching with live feedback.

Students are paired up with an instructor to receive one on one mentoring after each submitted practice coaching call. There will also be feedback during each class that provides coaching role play.
No, all classes are on-line and telephonic. You will have access to the TCCU Student Center on the internet where you’re learning materials, schedule, and more will be located.
Yes, you will need a connection fast enough to stream video.
Yes. However, you will need a screen large enough to view the instructors PowerPoint to participate and benefit from the class.
Our coach training program is unique with its emphasis on chronic pain management using Motivational Interviewing methods. This training is an evidence-based approach to pain recovery that gives the client real tools and strategies for minimizing their pain.
Yes. You are responsible to purchase your own books for our required reading assignments. These come to an average of $160.00 on Amazon (less if buying used and/or Kindle).
Every week there are two classes (minus some holiday weeks).
There are 33 live classes and 7 recorded classes.
Each course lasts approximately 17 weeks depending on holidays.
Each live class is 2 hours long with a 5-minute break. The recorded classes are an average of 1 ½ hours each.
- You should plan on 1-2 extra hours for each class for reading and homework assignments.
- A minimum of 3-5 hours (total) spent with Buddy Coaching and a minimum of 3 hours (total) for your Practical Skills Assessment (recorded practice coaching calls) are also needed.
- Completion of all assignments and reading exams
- Submission of three recorded practice coaching sessions with passing one of them
- Completion of at least six buddy coaching sessions
- Passing the comprehensive exam with 80% or higher
- Attending and Logging all class attendance, recorded classes, mentor calls and buddy coaching
- All course fees must be paid in full
You can miss up to four live classes. All classes are recorded and available to watch afterwards. If you miss a class, you must watch it as soon as possible and log your attendance as a recorded class.
We offer access to a MS Teams group where students/coaches can trade calls with each other to complete their 50 coaching sessions that NBHWC requires to apply to take their exam. We also offer an exam prep course that is free of charge for our graduates. We provide information and links about the application process, but we do not cover any of the exam fees.
- Attend classes and participate in coaching practicums
- Complete required reading and reading exams
- Complete three recorded coaching calls with passing a minimum of one.
- Pass a comprehensive exam
- You will receive a completion certificate showing that you earned 36 NBHWC approved CEU’s.
- After you provide us with a copy of your NBHWC certification, you will also receive your Certified Pain Management Coach (CPMC) certificate.
It is 12 weeks long. Each week there is one 2-hr live class and one 1-hr live practicum class.
Yes –
- Advanced Pain Coach Training course: 36 CEU’s
- Motivational Interviewing course: 12 CEU’s
- TCCU Book Club: 2 CEU’s per month
- Attestation of a minimum of 50 coaching sessions completed per year
- A copy of your renewed NBHWC certification
- Complete 15 hours of TCCU-provided/approved pain related CEU’s every three years (these can be part of your 36 CEU’s that NBHWC requires)
- If your CPMC renewal date is initially sooner than three years, a minimum of 5 CEU’s will be required for each year
- Pay a $49 renewal fee
